Tipping policy: the consultation duty

Employers who receive tips must have a written tipping policy and consult with staff on it. This applies whether tips are pooled, allocated by a tronc, or distributed directly, and matters particularly for bars and restaurants where tipping is a meaningful part of take-home pay.

If your policy hasn’t been reviewed since the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act came into force, this is worth revisiting alongside the other 2026/2027 changes.
